Healthy Office Snacks to Boost Workplace Morale

Want to show your staff you care without shelling out big bucks? Stock the kitchen with these healthy office snacks!

It's 2018. If you want to build your best workforce, you need to put some thought into your office culture. Glassdoor reports that 70% of job seekers use a site like theirs to read reviews of a company before deciding to work there. To attract the best and brightest, you need to put in some work. The good news? Work ≠ money. Before you get too concerned about how much building an incredible company culture will cost you, I'd like to recommend a simple, relatively affordable tip. Stock your kitchen with healthy office snacks!

If you're not convinced snacks will have an impact, check out this USA Today article. TL;DR? (too long; didn't read)

"While the majority, 56%, of full-time employees are "extremely" or "very" happy with their current job, that number jumps to 67% among those who have access to free food, the survey of more than 1,000 full-time office workers found."

Now that I've got your ear, I've also got some suggestions. I'm a true lover of snacks, so you can trust me on this. Here are a few healthy snack options to help you wow your team.

  • A fruit bowl. Yes, it seems basic. But having fresh fruit out in the open where everyone will see it encourages them to choose it. In fact, having fresh produce out and ready to grab is WebMD's top tip for eating more fruits and veggies.

  • DIY trail mix. Nuts are equal parts filling and tasty. The downside? They can be expensive. If you live in Ventura, CA, I can't recommend Winco's bulk section highly enough. You'll have to buy all your trail mix ingredients in separate bags because you pay by weight. (You get bonus points if you bring your own reusable bags to reduce waste!) But you can grab a wide variety of nuts, dried fruits, chocolate-covered goodies, etc. to mix together in a big container for your office. You can even ask employees for ingredient recommendations for an extra morale boost.

    • Pro tip: Put a 1/4 scoop in the trail mix container to encourage people to take enough to fill them up, but not so much they quickly drain your snack budget.

  • A tea bar. Most offices have some sort of coffee offering, but adding tea to the mix gives your team the chance to add variety to a much-loved ritual - sitting at your desk with a steaming mug. There are a huge range of tea options and almost all of them come with some kind of health benefits. Add a little label of those benefits to each tea container to take your tea bar to the next level.

Still on the hunt for healthy office snack ideas? Ask your team. Give the people what they want, and they'll love you for it!
